Event End Date: June 21, 2025
Speaker: Ryan Szimanski
Date: June 21

Cost: Included with General Admission, Free for ISM Members
Ryan Szimanski is currently the curator of Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial, a position he has held since 2018. He has worked on various museum ships over the last 19 years. Prior to the battleship, he worked in a variety of positions at Historic Ships in Baltimore from 2006 to 2017.
Ryan will discuss the development of battleships and other large surface warships operated by the United States Navy. As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Navy and the 130th anniversary of the commissioning of USS Olympia, Ryan will look back on the development of the gun ship over time, its era of supremacy, and argue why Olympia deserves to be recognized on the list of capital ships.
This program is free for Members – please email Membership@phillyseaport.org if you have any questions.
