Philadelphia Science Festival

Independence Seaport Museum is excited to participate in the Philadelphia Science Festival, taking place April 21-29. This community-wide annual celebration features exciting hands-on activities, and science experiences for all ages. 

Be An Ecologist 
Sunday, April 23, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Collect water samples directly from the Delaware River, get your hands messy in the mud, study organisms under a microscope and see a catfish dissection. Join students and volunteers on our docks to plant our new floating wetlands. Ecologists can get dirty, so dress for a mess!

Cocktail Lab: Rum 
Monday, April 24, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 

Have a barrel of fun in this interactive program getting to the heart of every pirate's favorite beverage: rum! Tickle your taste buds with tinctures and savor the science of spices as you learn the do's and don'ts of distilling rum from head to tail. The proof is in the pour: this program will make you an expert on anything rum. This is a 21+ only event.

Science After School 
Wednesday, April 26, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. 

Science comes to your neighborhood as the city's most engaging experts visit YOUR local library to lead FREE after school programs. Spark a passion for STEM learning through exciting experiments, animal encounters, and kid (and scientist) approved hand-on activities, right in your local library.

Gross Anatomy: Sex 
Thursday, April 27, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. 

Tease the mind and tantalize the senses as the Festival's signature cabaret-meets-science program returns! Craig Bruns, Chief Curator at Independence Seaport Museum, is part of this provocative presentation that explores the science behind sexual health and reproduction you DIDN'T learn in Sex Ed, and uncover why your brain is the biggest sex organ in your body. This is a 21+ only event.

Science Festival Carnival 
Saturday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location:  Penn's Landing

NASA has landed! We are thrilled to welcome NASA to the Philadelphia Science Festival on April 27-29, stationed inside the Museum in our first floor galleries. 

Enjoy special space and science missions that include interactive aeronautics experiences. Learn about the search of water in space. Experience a real-life space station through virtual reality goggles. See a model of a Mars Rover and much more. 

Paddle Penn's Landing will be open before the regular season for one-day only on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to Dusk. Cost of boat rentals is $7 per person for a half hour rental and $5 per person for Museum Members. Aquatic Acidification and Classy Plankton demonstrations will take place in our Citizen Science Lab during the Science Festival Carnival. Admission to the Museum is free. Admission to our historic ships, Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna will be $7 per person. Cannot be combined with other offers or discounts.
