Paddle Penn's Landing FAQs

Paddling around our boat basin is a fun and calming experience. You will likely get a nice workout too! While we want you to have fun on your paddling adventure, safety is our priority. Anyone renting a boat through Paddle Penn's Landing must wear a life jacket at all time while on the water. Boat rentals are for ages 3 and up. Find us off of Columbus Blvd at Penn's Landing, directly in front of our Workshop on the Water

Do you rent boats? How much? Yes, Paddle Penn’s Landing offers swan boats, rowboats and kayaks for rent. Rental fees are $8 per person. 

Do I need experience or a boat license to rent a boat?  Everyone is welcome! No experience needed for swans boats, and rowboats. 

Can I reserve a boat? All boat rentals are first-come, first served. Photo IDs are required for all rentals.

Are there age and weight requirements? Yes. The minimum age for boat rentals is 6 years old and 9 years old for tandem kayaks. Children must be at least 11 years old to take out a single kayak. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Boat ratings vary by number of passengers and weight limits. Paddle Penn's Landing staff will help you make the safest choice when renting. We retain the right to restrict the number of passengers aboard the boat to ensure the safety of all renters. 

Where can I go with the rental boat? Rentals are limited to inside the basin, north of Cruiser Olympia.

How long is the rental and what happens if I stay out longer? Rental rates are for each 30 minutes. It is your responsibility to return the boat within the rental time. If you would like to stay out longer, please inquire with boat rental staff about availability and additional fees at the time of your rental.  

Do I have to wear a life jacket? Yes, your safety is important to us. All renters must wear a life jacket while on the water. Safety equipment is provided with your rental fee. We remind you that it is your responsibility to check this equipment before leaving the dock. 

Will my clothes get wet? You can expect to get wet when renting a boat or kayak.  Kayaks, in particular, sit very low on the surface of the water and the seats do often have water inside.

Can Spot and Fido row or pedal? We love dogs (and cats) bur neither Spot, nor Fido, nor any pets are allowed in boat rentals.

We reserve the right to refuse use of equipment or facilities if the renter or customer, in our judgement, appears to be unfit to safely rent or operate a boat, under the influence of a substance, or otherwise in a situation which might affect their own safety or the safety of others. We reserve the right to call in rented boats that are improperly or unsafely handled.
