Paddle Penn's Landing FAQs
Do you rent boats? How much? Yes, Paddle Penn’s Landing offers swan boats, rowboats and kayaks for rent. Rental fees are $7 per person.
Do I need experience or a boat license to rent a boat? Everyone is welcome! No experience needed for swans boats and rowboats, but experience is needed for the kayaks.
Can I reserve a boat? All boat rentals are first-come, first served. You can rent your boat from the dock at Independence Seaport Museum on Penn’s Landing. Photo IDs are required for all rentals.
Are there age and weight requirements? Yes. The minimum age for boat rentals is 6 years old and 9 years old for tandem kayaks. Children must be at least 11 years old to take out a single kayak. All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All boats are rated by passengers and weight limit. If the weight limit is exceeded, we retain the right to restrict the number of passengers aboard the boat.
Where can I go with the rental boat? Rentals are limited to inside the basin, north of Cruiser Olympia.
How long is the rental and what happens if I stay out longer? Rental rates vary from ½ hour to one hour. It is your responsibility to return the boat within the rental time. If you would like to stay out longer, please make arrangements with boat rental staff.
Do I have to wear a life jacket? Yes, your safety is important to us. All renters must wear a life jacket while on the water. Safety equipment is provided with your rental fee. We remind you that it is your responsibility to check this equipment before leaving the dock.
Will my clothes get wet? You can expect to get wet when renting a boat or kayak. Kayaks, in particular, sit very low on the surface of the water and the seats do often have water inside.
