Lunar New Year

Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019

Bring the whole family and join us to celebrate Lunar New Year and learn about the heritages of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese cultures. 2019 is the Year of the Pig.

Try your hand at calligraphy, test out martial arts moves, and captivate the whole family through Chinese storytelling.

The day will be brimming with colorful activities from around the world while cultures are honored:

  • Create your own dragon puppets, which have been a tradition in Vietnam for generations.
  • It might be the year of the dog, but Japanese lucky cat figurines still bring good fortune for the year to come.
  • Test your techniques in the Korean board game of Yut.
  • Build your own Chinese lanterns.
  •  Bring in the New Year with a bang by crafting your own year of the pig drum.

Lunar New Year takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Storytelling happens on Schooner Diligence at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

The celebration is included with regular Museum admission. Museum Members receive free admission but a registration for Lunar New Year is appreciated in advance. Please check your emails or contact our Membership Department at 215-413-8626 or to receive the special promotional code for advanced tickets.
