Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day marks the end of summer and Independence Seaport Museum has all kinds of fun activities for the family during the holiday weekend. From interactive science activities, to paddling on the water, an all-new fireworks show, and spectacular views of the Delaware River from atop our Museum, you'll send-off summer in historic style.

Labor Day Weekend Activities:

Friday, September 1

Experience a relaxing, family-friendly (and free) atmosphere with incredible views of the Delaware River at Deck from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. A great way to kick-off the holiday weekend while enjoying food and drink options outdoors, amid a splashy scene on the Delaware River Waterfront. The L.A. Starz Acoustic Trio featuring Jonathan Hesbol & Friends provides the soundtrack.  Select your vessel and take part in Paddle Penn's Landing until the sun goes down. To experience a unique setting like never before, climb aboard with your crew for the Admiral's Tavern - a brand-new pop-up beer garden on Cruiser Olympia which makes it's debut.

Saturday, September 2

Kids are sure to be entertained as they learn about science in our Citizen Science Lab demonstrations, and create pirate swords as part of Seafarin' Saturdays. They may then want to live a pirate's life with their newly created sword by bringing it to Paddle Penn's Landing to take the helm of our newest fleet member... a pirate ship! The adventure can continue on our historic ships, Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna, with a behind-the-scenes tour. Top off the day with a view and a brew. Deck opens again at 3 p.m. with live music provided by the Verona Acoustic Trio with Christina Irizarry & Seth Jones. Crooked Eye Brewery steers historic ship, Cruiser Olympia, at the Admiral's Tavern

Sunday, September 3

The show-stopper of the weekend will be the brand-new Labor Day fireworks taking place at 9:30 p.m. Secure your spot on our third-story rotunda balcony with an advance ticket, which includes Museum admission. Another great option for picture-perfect views is to claim a free spot on our second floor terrace at Deck, opening at 5 p.m. With re-entry available, there are plenty of things to do during the day like seeing our Citizen Science Lab and Workshop on the Water in action or climbing aboard Schooner Diligence, a full-size model ship inside the Museum, part of our Patriots and Pirates exhibit. Rent a boat at Paddle Penn's Landing and see if you can spot our floating wetlands

Monday, September 4

The Museum will be open to visitors with regular hours on Labor Day, Monday, September 4. Explore our exciting exhibits like Philadelphia Rowing: Breaking Barriers and World War I: USS Olympia, or row your way over to Paddle Penn's Landing to rent a kayak, rowboat, swan, pirate ship or dragon.
