Kayaking

Kayak Excursions 
Join Independence Seaport Museum for exciting kayaking adventures on the Delaware River, and beyond. A unique way to spend a Saturday or a new alternative to happy hour. Take in the city from a different perspective - on the water, with these fun recreational outings. 

Graffiti Pier 
 Cost: $35 per person (includes kayak rental) 

Paddle six miles with us to one of Philadelphia's most instagrammable locations, Graffiti Pier. We'll pass by this landmark location and see it from the water. Penn Treaty Park will be another stop on this kayaking adventure. This trek is great for paddlers with a little, or a lot, of experience. Must be 15 years of age to participate. 

Three Sisters Ship Wreck with Kayaking Tutorial 
Cost: $35 per person (includes kayak rental) 

Head out on an easy, guided, three-mile expedition. Are you comfortable around the water but new to kayaking? Want some practice before setting out on a longer tour? Then this may be the right excursion for you! This expedition starts with time in the protected area of the Penn's Landing Marina for kayaking practice, lessons, and guidance from experienced kayaking guides. Once confident with the basics, head out on an easy guided expedition on the Delaware River to check out what remains of the Three Sisters ship wreck

Petty's Island 
Cost: $45 per person (includes kayak rental) 

This ten-mile kayaking excursion is for the experienced paddler, and nature lover. The trek will lead to Petty's Island, a 292-acre island in the middle of the Delaware River. Gear up for an eco-tour and bring your own picnic lunch. Perfect for preparing for the Walnut2Walnut Challenge. This excursion is best suited for intermediate to advanced paddlers. Must be 15 years of age to participate. 

All excursions are guided and include a safety orientation and kayaking introduction. Life jackets must be worn at all times. 

Paddling times depend on weather conditions, tides, experience, and guided stops. Return times are estimates. Please arrive 15 minutes early, especially if you are new to kayaking. Paddles may be canceled for inclement weather events and registered attendees will be notified as early as possible. Anyone planning to paddle under the age of 18 years old, must be accompanied by an adult. 

Recommended items to bring on kayak excursions: 
- Shoes that can get wet (ideally ones that are secured to your feet, not flip flops) 
- Clothing that can get wet 
- Full water bottle(s) 
- Hat 
- Sunglasses 
- Medications you may need 
- Dry bag or waterproof phone case if you plan on bringing any items on the river 
- Additional layers as appropriate

Kayak Club 
Independence Seaport Museum is excited to introduce our inaugural Kayak Club. A great fit for anyone interested in kayaking, from beginner to advanced skill levels. Participants who join Kayak Club will be provided with access to the Delaware River and its area tributaries through both guided and unguided experiences. Kayak Club is seasonal from May through the end of September.  

Kayak Club benefits include: 
- Unlimited kayak paddles at Paddle Penn's Landing 
- $10 discount on kayak excursions 
- $10 registration to the Walnut2Walnut Challenge, including kayak rental (first come, first serve) 
- Special kayak club offers 

Cost: $75 - Active Independence Seaport Museum Members receive a discounted rate when joining the Kayak Club 
$100 - Non Independence Seaport Museum Member rate to join the Kayak Club

Kayak Storage 
Need a place to stow your kayak from May to October for better access to the river? Limited storage is available at Independence Seaport Museum. Kayaks can be acquired during the hours of operation of the Museum and Paddle Penn's Landing.  

Cost:  $75 Museum Members / $100 Non-Members
